A French journalist has been arrested over revelations on France’s military cooperation with Egypt

Ariane Lavrilleux, a journalist for Disclose who helped uncover suspected civilian deaths in a French-Egyptian counter-terrorism operation by disclosing secret documents in 2021, was brought in for questioning by police in the southern region of France.
Ariane Lavrilleux, who brought this scandal to light in 2021, was apprehended on Tuesday, September 19, at the Marseille police headquarters. Prior to her arrest, her home in Marseille had been searched by agents from the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI).

The investigative media outlet stated:” The motive behind this unacceptable intimidation targeting Disclose journalists is crystal clear: to uncover the sources responsible for revealing the ‘Sirli’ military operation in Egypt.”

The French authorities are resolute in their efforts to trace the origin of the leaked documents pertaining to Operation Sirli, which brought to light previously undisclosed facets of counter-terrorism collaboration between Paris and Cairo. These actions are part of an investigation into potential breaches of national defense secrecy and the disclosure of information that could reveal the identity of a protected agent. The investigation was initiated in July 2022.
