An Egyptian court rejected activist Mohamed Adel’s appeal today

 Wednesday, and upheld his 4-year prison sentence. This decision is related to his charges of disseminating false news and information both domestically and internationally through the social media platform Facebook in Case No. 2981 of 2023.

Mohamed Adel was arrested on June 18, 2018, inside the Aja Police Station while he was under police surveillance as an additional penalty imposed on him in connection with the case known in the media as the Abdeen Court events. Since then, Adel has faced the same charges in three other cases without being brought to trial or any legal evidence presented against him, leading to him spending nearly five years in pretrial detention.
