The Cairo Criminal Court, sitting in the Council Chamber at the Badr Courts Complex, today, Tuesday, October 20, 2026, renewed the detention of lawyer Mohamed Abu El-Diar, rapporteur of the Defense Committee for Prisoners of Opinion, for 45 days pending investigation in Case No. 4502 of 2026 (Supreme State Security Prosecution Docket).

This was the first hearing at which Abu El-Diar appeared before the Council Chamber for the renewal of his detention. Previously, the Supreme State Security Prosecution had renewed his detention over a period of five months, through ten renewals of 15 days each.

Abu El-Diar faces charges of participating in a terrorist group in achieving its aims, and using online accounts to spread false news with the aim of disturbing public order, in connection with his activity in defending prisoners of opinion.

Security forces arrested him on May 25, days after the “Prison Is Not Their Place” exhibition organized by the committee in solidarity with those detained in opinion-related cases and their families.
