On 7 June 2026, the Supreme State Security Prosecution ordered the renewal of the detention of lawyer Mohamed Abu El-Diar for 15 days pending investigations in Case No. 4502 of 2026 (Supreme State Security), on charges of spreading false news and joining a banned group.
In the early hours of Monday, 25 May, security forces arrested several members of the Committee for the Defense of Prisoners of Conscience in separate incidents from their homes, including lawyer Mohamed Abu El-Diar, political activist Hanan El-Tantawy, and Court of Cassation lawyer Wafaa El-Masry.
These arrests came days after the committee organized a photo exhibition titled “Prison Is Not Their Place,” in solidarity with prisoners of conscience in Egypt and calling for their release.
In the same case, the prosecution ordered the release of Court of Cassation lawyer Wafaa El-Masry and Dr. Hanan El-Tantawy on bail of EGP 50,000 each, after charging them with spreading false news.
